Wear Are You - 2018 Graduation Collection

My work is inspired by the concept of combining "natural" with "unnatural". In this collection I mix photographic images of buildings with stylised illustrations of moss and rust, which I then screen print onto fabric. I then use the Japanese dyeing technique called "shibori" to add texture and colour to my work. The digitally printed work is reminiscent of Japanese coal paintings and was created to compliment the hand-dyed fabrics.

The purpose of my work is to blend together Japanese and European aesthetics as well as techniques, finding a balance between the tradition of craft and the modernity of technology.

This collection makes use of both my current knowledge of textiles (shibori and screen-printing) as well as my previously learnt knowledge of digital print. After my two and a half years at Tokyo University of the Arts, I am pleased to see how far my technical abilities have come and that the hard work I have put in has paid off.
