Itajime Scarves

"Itajime" is a form of shibori where fabric is folded, pressed between two blocks (typically triangles, squares, rectangles and circles) and then dyed. This technique is rather fun as it can create a variety of repeated patterns and if the blocks are changed or the fabric refolded, the colour combinations can lead to some interesting results.

For this project I decided to combine tradition with innovation by designing my own shapes and laser-cutting them on acrylic boards. The shapes are inspired by the geometric yet organic shapes of art-nouveau and for my colour palette I chose colours that are quite vivid and funky to add a touch of fun to an outfit.
